2 & 3 Phase separators are used during the processing of crude oil and gas to separate the oil, gas, and water found in the well stream.
The separators use a multi-phase process during which the well stream is first passed through an inlet deflector that separates gas from the heavier liquids. In the next phase, the stream is slowed, causing liquid particles remaining in the gas to drop from the gas. In the last phase, mist extractors capture any remaining small liquid particles still trapped in the gas. At the end of the separation process, natural gas exits from the top of the separator, and the separated oil and water flow from the bottom of the vessel. Throughout the process, filter media are used to control the size of the particles being filtered to control the purity of the separated gas and oil.
